About the King's England Press:
The King’s England Press is a small independent publisher which was founded in 1989 and has survived the attempts of various people to kill it off, two recessions, and the theft of the managing director’s banjo in 1993. We are not members of anything or spokesmen for anything which means we are free to speak as we like. We exist to reprint Arthur Mee’s King’s England series of 1930’s guidebooks, books for children and books on folklore, and we stand with Arthur Mee when he said: "Faster than imagination this world is moving on. I believe in the possibility of almost everything. The thought of all the wonders time contains does not surprise me. I believe that the poor will be rich and that life will be beautiful for all. I believe disease will disappear. I believe that we shall see and speak to people everywhere. I believe that the glory awaiting us all is greater than the poet says. Welcome to our collection of all our own publications. In this list you will find detailed descriptions of all the titles currently in print under the imprint of the King’s England Press, or currently reprinting, or forthcoming.
We hope this comprehensive listing of our own books will, by allowing us to go into more detail about our own publications, answer some frequently asked questions and provide the reader with a ready reference to our current and future publishing plans. All the information in this list is correct at the time of going to press, but we reserve the right to amend details particularly of titles still in the pre-publication stage. Further updates will be posted on this web site at regular intervals, so please feel free to return and browse here often.
Books which are described as “due” in a particular month are expected then. Others described as “in preparation” or “forthcoming” are at the pre-press stage where a firm date has not yet been assigned. Please contact us for more detailed updates. Wherever we can do, we have taken a stab at estimating when forthcoming books are coming out. Throughout this site, where there is a picture of the book’s cover you can USUALLY click on it to get more information on that book. Where there is a picture of the author, you can USUALLY get more info about the author by clicking on the author picture.
For all those who still write to enquire about them, the King’s England cats are still well and flourishing in their duties as guardians of the stock against rodent damage and send their regards... their ranks were recently swelled by the addition of Dusty and Kitty (right) who have also carried out various rodent deterrent duties, but sadly Russell was lost to us when he died last year at the age of 13 . Lastly of course, there's our security guard dog, Tiggy, who deters just about everything else by fearlessly rolling over to be tickled!
